EbonyLife TV’s Sons of the Caliphate brings the north closer to you

by Akan Ido

So we watched the Sons of the Caliphate movie produced by EbonyLife TV yesterday and we think it’s a winner – it pulls you in.

It’s our game of thrones – young people with too much money dispensing money, power and influence across a make-believe state Nigerian state of Kowa.

It’s an amazing cast of actors – most of them we may not be familiar with. At-least not here in Lagos, or Asaba for that matter. Most of us who aren’t familiar with Kannywood had a pretty good time seeing what Rahama Sadau is made of. Yes, Rahama – the Kannywood actress who was recently ‘banned’ by the movie industry in the north. How insensitive. Anyway, she pulled off her role perfectly well as Binta ‎Kutigi, a confident, independent, intelligent professional who keeps her respect for tradition.

sotc2The story was engaging – thanks to Dimbo Atiya and movie director, Kenneth Gyang. The production was good – thanks to EbonyLife TV. And the cast which has Patrick Doyle, Mofe Duncan, Sani Muazu, Yvonne Hays, and others did a good job interpreting their roles.

We saw only see the first episode of the 13-week drama series but we think it’s one worth watching. And yes, it’s showing today at 9pm on DStv channel 165.

Good one again from Mo Abudu and EbonyLife TV.
