Eko for show: Lagos is Nigeria’s richest state, while Sokoto is the poorest – NBS

Information obtained on the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) website reveals that Sokoto is the poorest state in Nigeia.

According to reports, the northern state has 81.2 per cent poverty rate. Next on the list is Katsina with 74.5 per cent; Adamawa, 74.2 per cent; Gombe, 74.2 per cent; Jigawa, 74.1 per cent; Plateau, 74.1 per cent; Ebonyi, 73.6 per cent; Bauchi, 73 per cent; Kebbi, 72 per cent and Zamfara, 70.8 per cent.

The record showed that poverty was more prevalent in the North as states with the lowest poverty rate was Niger with 33.8 per cent, followed by Osun with 37.9 per cent and Ondo with 45.7 per cent.

Bayelsa State with 47 per cent and Lagos State, 48.6 per cent.

The average poverty rate of the states in the North-west geopolitical zone remained the highest at 71.4 per cent followed by North-east 69.1 per cent and North-central, 60.7 per cent.

The South-west was less hit with poverty with an average of 49.8 per cent, followed by South-south, 55.5 per cent and South-east, 59.5 per cent.

  1. And the APC men like wamakko, shema, etc that could not help their people, are blaming the president ? Problem is a whole lot of Nigerians are blind and thats why they will continue to suffer

  2. some states might start to think they are better off than others.

    but the truth is that in no distant time one man in govt will come up with idea of improving the living conditions of impoverished states, then we will know where the money will be going to.

    this is time for reality, don't glorify in false assumptions because when the sharing starts, a whole different statistic will emerge from different quarters.

    who are the richest individuals in nigeria and how do they spread their wealth in their communities?

  3. i smell something not pleasant. someone somewhere wants to rubbish the North but is actually doing a terrible job.

  4. i believe report is not the final assessment because you can never equalled Gombe in terms of development on the same scale as Adamawa with both 74.2%. please do a rethink just on this. Gombe has suddenly blossomed to a new haven of world class "fastest" developed state in the country. the rate of up springing architectural artistic structures can only be compared to Dubai.
