Emmanuel Egobiambu: You light up my world (Poetry)

by Emmanuel Egobiambu

They say it’s val, oops Valentine’s Day. Well, even as a man of letters, I find it hard to describe my feelings.

Left for me, and with you, everyday is val.

But on this day,
since you are the anchor that holds me when the winds of life blow, I
would not fail to render these notes; to fulfil my vow.

Even at a time when PHCN has told us NEVER TO EXPECT POWER ALWAYS
(NEPAed us), you continue to light my world with uncountable megawatts
embedded in your beauty, goodness and kindness.

As the morning sun rises daily, my love for you grows daily.

If your love were to be grasses, I will be your only goat because you
make me lie in green pastures.

Without you, my eyes are blind, like a rose without color.

My love, you make my ink flow, I can write non-stop like Chimamanda for you.

You are my aviation minister; You make me fly first class.

Even while others are shouting “hello, young lady!”, I will gladly
invite you to my cubicle to feel your warmth.

Just like a T-JUNCTION, you are the congregator of my heart’s desires.

I might not be D’banj but my bank I can afford to bang the door on, to
hang with you.

You need no plastic surgery as your beauty makes Omotola look like
“akara” sellers in my village.

Come, let us go to a world where your beautiful face will be the sunshine!
