EPL Roundup: Leicester lose as Guardiola wins on Manchester City debut

The long awaited English Premier League kicked off with an upset as newly promoted side Hull City defeated champions, Leicester City 2-1 in the season opener at the KC Stadium.

Adama Diomande scored the season’s first goal at the stroke of half-time before last season’s player of the year, Riyad Mahrez equalised from the spot.

Hull restored the lead through Robert Snodgrass and held on to secure a historic victory.

In the other games of the day, another newly promoted side Middlesborough were held to a 1-1 draw by Stoke City.

Everton and Tottenham Hotspur also shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw just as Southampton and Watford also played a 1-1 draw.

Swansea City and West Bromwich Albion both secured 1-0 away victories against Burnley and Crystal Palace respectively.

Pep Guardiola’s first taste of English football ended in a scrappy 2-1 victory for his Manchester City side against David Moyes’ Sunderland.

A Paddy McNair own goal in the 87th minute was enough for Pep and his boys.

Tomorrow, AFC Bournemouth will host Manchester United while Arsenal hosts Liverpool and Monday night sees Chelsea host West Ham at Stamford Bridge.
