How 6 brothers ‘used machetes’ to attack Police ASP

Six brothers have been charged with allegedly shooting a police officer.

The brothers, Saheed Onilewaji, 38; Lawal Onilewaji, 34; Ramon Onilewaji, 35; Azeez Sanni Onilewaji, 30; Sulaimon Abbas Onilewaji, 31 and Lateef Abbas Onilewaji, 24, were arraigned on Wednesday, 3 September, before an Ebute-Metta Chief magistrate’s court, sitting in Oyingbo, Lagos.

The defendants reportedly shot the police officer, Alli Thomas, on 26 July at about 1 pm, at Oribanwa village, Elemoro, Ibeju-Lekki area of Lagos State.

Inspector George Nwosu, the police prosecutor, told the court that the defendants conspired among themselves to shoot the officer, who is an Assistant Superintendent of Police.

He added that the defendants also used machetes to inflict grievous bodily harm on the police officer.

The offences are punishable under Sections 409 and 243 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2011.

Spurgeon Ataene, the counsel to the defendants, implored the court to grant them bail in the most liberal term.

Magistrate E. O. Ogunkanmi admitted the six defendants to bail in the sum of N50,000 with two responsible sureties each in like sum. The matter has been adjourned till 16 October.
