It’s about time! The award-winning broadway musical Fela!, based on the life of the legendary Fela Anikulapo Kuti’s Life has finally come home to Lagos, Nigeria. The wave making Broadway show about the life and music of Fela Anikulapo-Kuti is scheduled for performance in Lagos – the first performance since closing of the NTLive performance which was broadcast in 37 cinemas worldwide and the Broadway and London productions.

Theatre goers, and fans of Fela’s music alike have high hopes for the show. ‘It was so much fun watching Sahr Ngaujah playing the iconic Fela role. His wives, and all the other cast; the music; it was very impressive, and I’m looking forward to watching it here again,’ said Adetola Samson, who saw the musical in London’s National Theatre in December last year.

Fela!, the landmark musical, which won three Tony Awards including best choreography (Bill T. Jones), will hold at the prestigious Eko Hotel’s New Expo Centre, Victoria Island, Lagos, from April 20-25. The show, which is brought to Nigeria by Broken Shackles Limited, is executive produced by entertainment heavyweights Shawn Jay Z Carter, Will and Jada Pinkett-Smith.

The entire Fela! cast and band came into Nigeria a few days ago, and have insisted on paying homage to Fela Anikulapo Kuti and his family by presenting a tribute concert, dedicated to his memory, at Fela’ s spiritual home, the New Afrika Shrine. This will hold on Thursday 14th April at the New Afrika Shrine. Gate fee is N1000.
