What Gbajabiamila said after emerging Majority House Leader yesterday

The anointed candidate of the All Progressives Congress, for the Speaker-ship of the Federal House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, was on Tuesday, July 28, compensated with the next best thing.

Yakubu Dogara, had on June 9, gone against the directive of the APC to contest for Speaker, and went on to defeat Gbajabiamila in the election.

Following the election, it was naturally expected that Gbajabiamila would emerge House Majority Leader, but Dogara and his loyalists hid under the umbrella of federal character, to insist that the South-west could not clinch the position, after being represented in the Deputy Speaker position, in the person of Yusuf Lasun.

After over a month of political scheming, public and private wranglings, verbal attacks and counter-attacks, Gbajabiamila was selected Majority Leader while the principal officers of the House were also announced on Tuesday.

Consequently, the crisis in the National Assembly nears an end, as the former Minority Leader and his supporters finally got what they had been after, for the past month.

Reacting to his selection as House Leader, Gbajabiamila said: “What you saw in the last 49 days was actually democracy in action.”

“That’s what politics is all about: everybody trying to outwit everybody for the greater good of the country. I’m glad that everything has panned out the way it did.

You will now see the House you knew in the last four years back in action, working for the people, working for the nation. I’m sure we’ll have a lot more to say tomorrow (today).”

  1. Some may say too early but i am sorry, I have almost given up already on this administration. I thought impunity would be expunged- Dogaga . Even Gbaja is telling us now we would see the house of the last 4 years- that we loathed….

Last nail for me would be for APC to fail to see the Senate forgery case to a legal and logical end. It must not be swept under the carpet under any guise. Else what PDP call witch hunt would be confirmed.

Nigerian are tired. We want truth and uprightness. If they settle for less in the senate I can only wish ppl well for I would have given up completely. At least for our generation. It wouldn’t happen in our time…. If the truth be told.
