FG, ASUU to meet over ongoing strike action

The Federal Government on Thursday expressed optimism that the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) would suspend its nationwide warning strike.

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Labour and Employment, Dr. Clement Illo while speaking with journalists said the government will be meeting with the leadership of the union on Friday (today) and Monday.

ASUU and the Senate had held a meeting which ended in deadlock on Wednesday.

Illo said, “It is still work in progress and we are still meeting tomorrow (Friday) and on Monday.

“But the indications are very positive that the issues will be resolved as quickly as possible. We are sure of success on Friday but if we did not, then we will definitely succeed by Monday.”

ASUU President, Prof. Biodu Ogunyemi also confirmed that there would be a meeting between the Federal Government and the union over the ongoing strike.
