Why the FG is probing the Navy, Army and Airforce

The Federal Government has revealed its decision to probe the Army, the Navy and the Air Force.

According to the Federal Ministry of Finance on Thursday, May 12, it became necessary to investigate the payrolls following the revelation during the trial of a former Chief of Defence Staff, Air Marshal Alex Badeh that N558.2 million was reportedly diverted from the NAF accounts monthly.

The ministry, in a statement released by the Director of Information in the ministry, Salisu Dambatta said that the minister of finance, Kemi Adeosun gave the directive for the audit which would be carried out by the Continuous Audit Team of the Federal Government.

The Continuous Audit Team, the ministry stated, had been given the responsibility of scrutinising the payroll of the three services, which have yet to be included on the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System, to make sure that all possible loopholes that could lead to leakages were blocked.

“The Continuous Audit Process was one of the initiatives of the Minister approved by President Muhammadu Buhari as part of the ongoing reforms in the public finance management system of the Federal Government, which he emphasized in his 2016 budget speech,” the statement read.
