The Federal Government will start the construction of five new international terminals in Lagos, Kano, Abuja, Enugu and Port-Harcourt in July

This is contained in a statement by Yakubu Dati, the General Manager, Corporate Communications, Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), in Lagos.

George Uriesi, FAAN’s Managing Director, said the construction of the terminals would pave way for the aerotropolis concept designed to turn around the fortunes of the nation’s aviation.

Uriesi said the remodelled Aminu Kano International Airport would be inaugurated on March 15; while Sam Mbakwe International Cargo Airport, Owerri, would take place on March 22.

According to him, this will be followed in quick succession by the remodelled airports in Yola, Enugu, Jos, Port-Harcourt and Kaduna.

He, however, added that the authority would work with entrepreneurs who had proven track records of excellence in their various business endeavours.

The managing director said that the authority’s quest was to transform Nigerian airports into ideal airports with state-of-the-art facilities.

He noted that the vision of the Minister of Aviation, Stella Oduah, to transform Nigerian airports into centres of excellence was beginning to yield the expected results.

Uriesi said that the authority was determined to prove that good things could come out of the public service and that the provision of modern airport facilities that would give the public value for their money and make Nigerians proud.
