The days of crazy transfer fees could soon be over in football, if FIFA and FIFPro get to implement a new plan of every player having an official transfer price.
It is a move that will see prices like the £50m Chelsea paid Liverpool for Fernando Torres and Real Madrid buying Gareth Bale for around £85m, stopped.
Although FIFPro might experience some difficulties with convincing the major clubs to reduce the value of their big players, the union are determined to get their way, with the help of FIFA.
“It is a hard problem to solve but there is a way to do it,” a top FIFPro source said.
“You could take a player’s wage, the time left on his deal and his other commercial ‘worth’ and come to a total.”
