FIFA quits partnership with Ballon d’Or award

One of football’s most prestigious individual awards, the Ballon d’Or will not be hosted by FIFA anymore as French publication, France Football has parted ways with the football governing body.

A press release by France Football read, “The end of the partnership between France Football and FIFA will lead to a new look of Ballon d’Or. Discover it next Tuesday in FF.”

Both parties have decided not to renew the contract after it expired, seeing the award go back to its initial format.

Both the FIFA World Player and the Ballon d’Or were merged for the FIFA Ballon d’Or in 2010.

Barcelona Player, Lionel Messi won the award five times, while Cristiano Ronaldo clinched it three times.
