For Governor Ambode, this PDP statement is bittersweet (READ)

The Lagos state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party has commended the governor of the state, Akinwunmi Ambode for the rescue of the abducted female students.

Governor Ambode is a member of the ruling party- All Progressives Congress.

Three female students were on Monday, February 29 abducted from Babington Macaulay Junior Seminary School in Ikorodu and subsequently rescued by security agents on Saturday, March 5.

PDP, in a statement by its Publicity Secretary, Taofik Gani praised the governor for the swift response of the state and security forces which eventually led to the rescue of the kidnapped girls.

However, despite heaping accolades on the governor, the party warned that the rescue of the girls should not in anyway be politicised.

The party pointed out to the governor that in claiming the successes of the government, he should claim the failures as well.

In addition, the party urged Governor to tighten up security of the educational institutions in the state, stating that the abduction was only possible in the first place because of a lapse in security.

Read the statement below.

“We commend all the forces who participated in the rescue of the three schoolgirls. Particularly, we want to say that the state government, led by the state governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode demonstrated leadership by coming out to take specific role which led to the success of the operation. That is worth commending.

“We are quick to also say that the governor should not be over excited. He should not lay claim to success if he is also not ready to take responsibility for failure.

“We believe that it was a security lapses that led to the abduction of the girls in the first place because we are made to believe that in every school, we have a neighbourhood watch and other specific security It turned out that was not in place that school.

“So, the state government needs to be up and doing. And while we commend the rescue of the girls, we don’t want this state government to politicize or over celebrate it.”
