For Poets: In The Name of God

by Bunmi Ajilore

The Lord loves a cheerful giver

Even if it comes from the house of Mammon

His appointed thrives while His people emaciate

Yet everyday they bring all treasure to His house;

Lord, how many have been swindled in Your name?

The image of the seven virgins looms large in his heart,

Virgins and goodies meant only for martyrs in Al-janah;

He butchered his brother and shouted Al-hamdullilahi

And across the oceans, his comrade detonated himself among the infidels

Allah, how many have been slaughtered in Your name?

The things that have been done in Your name

Would make even the Great Serpent blush;

The lies, fallacies and personal aggrandizement manifested by

The self-appointed peddlers of Your ‘truth’

Who rob, divide, and kill us in the name of God.
