Foreign coach: You can’t fire Siasia based on one match – Minister tells Pinnick

Contrary to the position of the President of Nigeria Football Federation, Minister of Sports, Solomon Dalung has said Super Eagles stand-in coach, Samson Siasia cannot be judged solely on one match.

NFF President, AMaju Pinnick had last week stated that a foreign coach must be hired for the Super Eagles, else he’d resign from his position.

Pinnick’s statement came on the heels of the failure of the Nigerian national team to qualify for the African Cup of Nations 2017.

National Under-23 coach, Samson Siasia was in charge of the Super Eagles for the make or mar tie against the Pharaohs of Egypt following the resignation of former coach, Sunday Oliseh.

However, Dalung, while speaking in Abuja on Saturday, stated that the incessant sacking of coaches ‘must stop now’.

“The hiring and firing of coaches is a problem, when shall we have an end to it? In my view, we place personal interest above national interest.”

“You don’t access a coach with one match. You give him ample opportunity and generate correct data to access his performance.”

“The hiring and firing of coaches just on one performance speaks volumes of senses of judgement and it does not augur well for our football. It must stop now.”
