Just In: Ex-NNPC boss, Andrew Yakubu, Jide Omokore arrested by EFCC

Former Group Managing Director of Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Andrew Yakubu has been arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) alongside Jide Omokore, an oil magnate.

Yakubu was arrested by the anti-graft agency Monday morning, following allegations of money laundering and corruption.

Jide Omokore is a close business associate of former minister of petroleum, Diezani Allison-Madueke.

Sources at the EFCC revealed that both men will be tried before Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court in Abuja on a 4-count charge of money laundering and corruption

Yakubu was appointed as the GMD of NNPC by former president Goodluck Jonathan in 2012 before he was sacked by the same government in 2014.

Other persons and corporations to be charged include Victor Briggs, Abiye Membere, David Mbanefo, Atlantic Energy Brass Development Limited and Atlantic Energy Drilling Concepts Limited.
