Fraud: Police arrests Ekiti PDP chairman over dud cheque

The factional Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ekiti State, Idowu Faleye, was arrested by the police in connection with a dud cheque issued to pay for the rentage of the state secretariat.

He was arrested at about 5:00pm on Wednesday by a special police squad from the Force Headquarters, Abuja.

The police acted on a petition written by the owner of the building which serves as the PDP state secretariat, Ropo Adesanya, who was issued the cheque which was rejected by an old generation bank based in Ado Ekiti.

Adesanya, is a former PDP Chairman in the state, defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in May.

The Ekiti PDP owes Adesanya about N1.5 million being the rent of one year and he has been fighting hard to recover the money without success.

He then served the party an eviction notice after failing to claim the N1.5 million rent.

The state’s Police Public Relations Officer, Alberto Adeyemi, confirmed the arrest of Faleye in a telephone chat with reporters on Thursday.

“It is true that he (Faleye) has been arrested, he was arrested by officers from the Force Headquarters who came from Abuja. I have just confirmed that from the AC-CID (Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of Criminal Investigation Department),” he said.
