Friday tragedy: 2 accidents leave 3 dead on Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway

Two highway accidents on the Lagos-Abeokuta expressway has claimed the lives of three persons on Friday, ten others were seriously injured.

Reports claim that the first accident occurred at Sona Breweries in Ijoko area of Sango Ota at about 7.20am. Three people were burnt beyond recognition and three others were seriously injured.

According to the Federal Road Safety Corps Unit Commander in Sango Ota, Richard Olutiriko, the driver of a Volkswagen bus with registration number: LAGOS XM 587 EKY was speeding beyond the lawful limit.

“The Abeokuta-bound bus rammed into the road divider in front of Sona Breweries and somersaulted three times before it started burning.”

In the second accident occurred around Wasimi, Ewekoro Local Government Area on the same Abeokuta-Lagos route. The Itori Unit Commander of the FRSC, Fatai Bakare, confirmed that seven persons were critically injured from the accident.

Bakare also attributed the accident between a blue Ford bus with registration number AA 384 TAK and a white MAC truck with registration number Lagos KJA 113 XB to dangerous driving.

He said eight people were involved in the accident and injured victims were admitted at the FRSC emergency clinic in Itori for treatment.

Those who died at the scene were taken to the Ota General Hospital in Sango.
