Frozen $15m: Patience Jonathan demands N200m damages

Former first lady, Patience Jonathan has filed a $200m fundamental human rights against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and Skye Bank over er frozen $15m.

The EFCC had frozen the account while investigating a former Special Adviser on Domestic Affairs, Waripamo-Owei Dudafa.

The accounts were opened in the names of four companies, having Dudafa’s domestic workers as Directors.

On Wednesday, Patience lawyer, Granville Abibo applied to withdraw an earlier filed motion, stating that he has served a new motion.

Abibo then urged the court to restrain the EFCC from tampering with the $15m in the frozen accounts pending the determination of the suit.

But EFCC lawyer, Oyedepo urged the court to discountenance Abibo’s submission, saying that the accounts had long been frozen before Patience filed the suit and so the issue of interference with the accounts did not arise.

After listening to the parties, Justice Kuewumi adjourned till December 7, 2016 for the hearing of the case.
