Officials of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) in Ogun have been criticized after it was alleged that they used teargas on 3 young children.

Ibrahim Folorunsho, 8, Basirat Folorunsho, 6 and Faridat Folorunsho, 6 months, had to be given medical care after they were attacked by the officials who were attempting to impound their father’s car.

The children were being conveyed to school by their parents, their father at the wheel, when the vehicle was stopped by the FRSC officials.

Vanguard reports:

An eye-witness told Vanguard that the incident occurred when the children – were being conveyed to school by their father in company of their mother.

The source, who pleaded anonymity, said the officials of FRSC flagged down the Mitsubishi space wagon car in Omida area of the town to impound the car.

It was gathered that the alleged offence of the father of the kids was that he was driving an unregistered car which prompted the officials of FRSC to attempt to seize it.

One of the corps allegedly tear-gassed the occupants of the car before the vehicle was driven to the sector headquarters at Government Reservation Area, GRA, Ibara, Abeokuta.

The tear-gas caused serious discomfort to the kids who were heading to Lawson Private School in Kuto area of the town.

The kids were seen  shedding tears profusely as a result of the teargas, a development which attracted many passers-by who expressed displeasure over the action.

The people in the area offered first aid treatment to the children, before they regained stability, while the six month old had to be rushed to hospital by the mother for adequate medical attention.

When our correspondent visited the headquarters of the commission, no officer was ready to talk to the press.
