Fulani herdsmen kill APC youth leader, 3 others in Benue

An All Progressives Congress youth leader, and three others have been killed in a clash between Fulani herdsmen and farmers at Tse Tia, in Tarka LGA of Benue State.

The attack was reported to have stemmed from the alleged killing of two Fulani herdsmen and five of their cattle by youths of the area.

This prompted the Fulani herdsmen to storm the village for a reprisal attack.

A source was quoted by Vanguard, to have said: “Their presence in the village enraged the locals and a bloody fight ensued leading to the abduction and murder of two persons from the village, including the APC youth leader in Tarka local government area, Mr. Aondohemba Kasa.”

“The reprisal attack was what forced the youths of the community to take over the busy Makurdi-Gboko road for several hours yesterday thereby disrupting the free flow of traffic on the highway.”

“They made bonfire on the highway and rebuffed appeals by the Secretary to the State Government, SSG, Mr. Takema Targema who visited the scene to plead with them to open up the highway, insisting that the herdsmen be compelled to release corpses of those they had earlier abducted and killed.”

The Benue State Police Public Relations Officer, Assistant Superintendent Moses Yamu confirmed the killings, noting that the remains of the APC youth leader had been recovered by the Police.

“Normalcy has returned to the area and the road has also been reopened for use by motorists,” he said.
