He might be only several years off retirement, but plans for taking it easy are now off the cards.

Funny man Tom Arnold has become a dad for the first time aged 54-years-old.

The star and his wife, Ashley, 37, welcomed their new arrival on Saturday.

Tom confirmed that the couple had named the baby boy Jax Copeland Arnold.

He was born at 9.53am weighing 8lb 12oz and is 21 inches long.

Family friend and Arnold Schwarzenegger’s ex wife Maria Shriver and their daughter Katherine Schwarzenegger took to twitter to congratulate the pair.

Maria tweeted: ‘Bravo, you guys! You’ll have a blast.’

Baby Jax will also be sure to have a playmate with the couple’s best man, Dax Shepard, who recently became a dad to baby girl Lincoln Bell, along with his partner Kristen Bell.

Tom first revealed the couple’s pregnancy whilst he was co-hosting American TV talk show, The View.

He joked: ‘I’m pregnant. I have put on, like, 40 pounds. My wife is pregnant too. We’re having a baby.

‘I didn’t think it was in the cards for me, to be honest, and so I was completely shocked. It’s a miracle.’

Their new arrival comes as a great comfort, as the couple initially struggled to conceive and went through several rounds of IVF.

The couple married in an intimate ceremony in Maui, Hawaii, in November 2009.

It’s the first child for them both, as Tom has no previous children from his marriages to former wives Roseanne Barr, Julie Lynn Champnella and Shelby Roos.
