BattaBox goes into the streets of Lagos to explore just how getting facial and other beauty treatment session by the road side really works.

Lagos streets are filled with millions of people, car exhaust fumes, humidity and sweat – surely, the last place anyone would try to promote a nice, relaxed moment to get a facial…?

“I’ve just finished my 10 minute facial done on the streets of Oshodi – it’s pretty nice but I dey fear, my face is very delicate,” says Adeola, our BattaBox correspondent, as she rubs white cream on her face. “Tomorrow, no pimples or spots on my face – miracle don happen, lets see if it will happen now!”

The facial cream is sold by a woman named Victoria who carries the various soaps, creams and powders on her head in a plastic bag.

Soon both Adeola’s face are covered in the white cream that Victoria claims will stop rashes, as well as keep you face smooth and clean. She even sells a liquid to give people a flat stomach.

“It will clear pimples in under three days,” says Victoria, who’s own face is caked in the white cream. If you want to go for the ‘flat stomach’ option, you must drink the liquid and then, after three days, “it burns the fat inside,” says Victoria.

Instructions for use include leaving the cream on until at least evening, but Adeola begins to get concerned: “It feels kind of pepper’ish”

Using the ‘original’ soap from Victoria (and a little Pure Water), Adeola cleans off her trial Nigeria cosmetic and begins to immediately feel the effects.

“It’s scratching me,” she cries in concern at what will happen to her face the next morning.
