How Gov. Fayemi’s aide & family members escaped death in Ekiti

by Isi Esene

Odunayo Ogunmola, an aide to Governor Kayode Fayemi yesterday escaped death after a truck ran into his car in Ado-Ekiti.

Ogunmola who had six other people in the car said the truck lost control while going up a hill around Deeper Life Camp Ground road, Ajebamidele area of Ado-Ekiti, the state capital.

In the car with him were his wife, three children and two in-laws. They all sustained injuries except a baby who escaped the ordeal unhurt. No one died in the accident.

Narrating the incident to journalists in Ado-Ekiti, Mr. Ogunmola said they were returning home from their church’s special programme around 7:10pm when a truck conveying sand marked Ekiti XA769 MUE driving ahead of him suddenly had brake failure on the hilly road and rammed into his car.

“I noticed the truck, a Mercedes benz, fully loaded with white sand, suddenly stopped while going up the hill and started coming down like that, apparently having lost control of its mechanism,” he said.

“I started reversing the car but the truck kept following me. I quickly swerved to a side of the road I guessed was safe enough but I was wrong. The truck came down exacly where I parked, hitting the car and sending the whole thing including the occupants tumbling upside down. All of us, except our few months old baby did not sustain any injury.”

His wife, Arike Ogunmola called the encounter “the miracle of our life”.

“The car was already upside down, the wheels facing the heavens. They assisted us out through the windows. It was after we had come out that we managed to bring my husband out too. This is the miracle of our life,” she said.

  1. I really thank God for His mercy and protection towards this family. Drivers are advised to cheek their vehicles mechanisms very well before taking them out for their business activities.
