Gowon reminds Biafra protests that Zik had love for ‘One Nigeria’

For the love of Zik!

Former Head of State, Yakubu Gowon, has words for Igbos who are agitating for the breakup of Nigeria, noting the role played by the late Premier of the East and first President of Nigeria, Nnamdi Azikiwe, in keeping Nigeria one.

Gowon stated this at the public presentation of a book entitled: Zik: Testimonies To A Great African. The book was edited by Henry Onukwuba to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the demis Azikiwe.

The former Head of State further berated Nigeria youths for their lack of knowledge of history, saying that by the end of the civil war Igbo youths were praying not to experience a war again.

Gowon’s statement is coming on the heels of the recent agitation for secession of the Southeast from Nigeria. This agitation has been championed by the Independent People of Biafra led by the embattled Nnamdi Kanu, who is facing criminal prosecution for treason.
