Group says 70 per cent of GEJ’s supporters can’t state his achievements – Discuss

by Ranti Joseph

A non-governmental organization, Change Initiative Forum (CIF) on Monday has said most supporters of President Goodluck Jonathan cannot give reasons he should be re-elected on March 28, 2015, stating that although the supporters believe that the present administration had performed commendably, 70 per cent of them would not be able to state some of the achievements of the current government

The Coordinator, CIF, Genesis Jeremiah, told journalists in Abuja that the development prompted the group to publish a book on the President’s feats while in office.

“Virtually 70 per cent of those fighting for the President to be re-elected cannot articulate the reason he should come back with facts and figures. All they know is that he has done well as President despite the challenges. That is why the Change Initiative Forum came up with this idea of detailing his achievements in a book titled -Why Goodluck Jonathan should be re-elected in 2015. This is to provide reasons and facts for these very persons to be able to defend what they are standing for as it relates to the various sectors of the Nigerian economy,” he said.

Jeremiah said the group had taken its campaign across the country, adding that it had gone to the six geopolitical zones to conduct rallies and we decided to present the book in Abuja being the grand finale of the entire process.

On some of the achievements, he said the passage of the Freedom of Information Bill was remarkable in that it had given people the freedom to speak up on issues without fear or favour. “The way people insult and embarrass the President has never been recorded in the history of this country and the reason is because he passed the FOI bill. Secondly, years back, about 90 per cent of Nigeria’s revenue was from the oil sector. But this has changed because sectors like agriculture and transport are now contributing commendably to the country’s revenue. Yes there are issues but with time they will be addressed,” he added.

A former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory and a member of the board of trustees of the Peoples Democratic Party, Abba Gana, said the book would enlighten Nigerians on the performance of President Jonathan. “The book is timely because it will enlighten Nigerians so that they can make the best political choice for themselves and for the country. I am sure it will guide Nigerians and will also let people see the performance of the President very clearly,” he said.

  1. I had a problem with south east ppl even though they see black they tend to call it white .. most of my friends are igbos.. and its seems 80% of them are supporting Jonathan not becuz they re benefiting from the system nor the administration as doing well .. but they’re giving support out of sentiment , this is a Government that as spent from both federation and excess crude acct without nothing to show for it ..Civil servant were owned 3 month salaries. , what happen to $20bn FG claim to have spent on power electricity… ? what happen to subsidy fund, pension fund, where is the oil money missing not sure about the figures but hey where is it,,under Jonathan’s watch everything is falling apart…what happen to the chilbok gurls.. they’re either raped or being married off. for God sake why are we still calling jonathan .. for me is a Bad luck to this nation …alot as happened

    1. My dear brother, the reason we claim to know much about the federation and excessive crude account, the subsidy scam etc is because the world is now a global village. More atrocities were committed during the past regimes. Imagine the tens of political assassinations that were executed during the immediate past regime. Obasanjo’s regime claimed to have spent $17b on power, not this government. Almajiri schools that were built all over the country, don’t you know the positive effects? About 14 government universities were built under this regime, whereas the immediate past president and his vice, (that are both advocating for change now) built 1 university each for themselves during their administration. We all know about that. I am no politician, but truth be told, Nigeria is not that an easy state. We were all born corrupt and raised corrupt. If there is any way there would be change, it will begin with you and I, and not with political parties patronage, knowing fully well that we are advocating for the same set of politicians. And if by chance, we eventually find the “change” that we have been yearning for, I hope we all shall be ready to face the music.
We cannot transform to America or Dubai overnight. It’s one step at a time. And point of correction, I am a civil servant, and nobody is owing me.

  2. No more room for godfatherism in the PDP. GEJ has stepped on their toes. Their brain-washed supporters don’t even have any point following them. All they care about is “change”. To what end? Changing to another Obasanjo-led group, comprising of Atiku, Amaechi, Tinubu, Kwankwaso, Danjuma… same ol PDP members that GEJ denied the privilege of running the government with him. Change Initiative Forum (CIF), be reasonable. Nothing is changing under APC. It is the Cabal that is Changing name

  3. This is baseless, malicious and criminal

Nevertheless the more this kind of criminal write ups the more popular GEJ becomes

    More of this. Anyway way
    Forward Nigeria
    Forward GEJ

    1. Did you bother reading the article at all before commenting? Read it and stop being an ignorant and stop jumping to conclusions, the article actually exonerated GEJ, that article is from his supporters, you are one of the problems in Nigeria, people jumping into conclusion before hearing the truth.
