A group, Citizens in Defence of the Integrity of Nigerian Military, on Thursday called for media support for troops fighting the Boko Haram insurgency in the North-East.

Members of the group, who visited Punch Newspapers office in Abuja on Thursday with placards, said they were from the states affected by the insurgency.

They pleaded with the media to motivate the military through balanced reportage of the battle against Boko Haram terrorists.

The Co-convener of the group, Ali Ibrahim, who read a statement, said their interest is to assist the military to end the terrorism scourge to enable them live their normal lives again.

“A lot of us are from the states mostly affected by the activities of the terrorists; we have lost relations and friends, our towns and communities are devastated, our people forced into refugee situation in their own country. Our interest therefore, is to assist our military to end this scourge to enable us live our normal lives again, we do not need media reports that will aggravate the situation or embolden the terrorists and their accomplices,” he said.
