The Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly, John Dabwan, was allegedly attacked on Tuesday night at a church crusade in Jos South Local Government Area.

It is believed it was an assassination attempt as the gunmen arrived as members of the Christian Rural and Urban Development Association of Nigeria were holding a crusade, asking specifically for the Speaker. Nine people were injured and are now receiving treatment at the Plateau Specialists Hospital.

According to eyewitness reports, the men shot aimlessly into the air but the Speaker, it was gathered, remained anonymous.

“We noticed that all was not well when we spotted the gunmen, who demanded where the Speaker was in loud tone.

“Some of us were not aware that the Speaker was there and I think he sensed trouble so he drove out quickly before anyone could identify him,” the eye-witness reportedly said.

Before anybody else was injured, members of the Special Task Force at nearby Lomay Hotel arrived on the scene after they heard the gunshots,  they didnt catch the attackers but were able tp take the injured worshipers to the Plateau Specialists Hospital.

The Speaker’s Chief Press Secretary, Nandak Shingle, confirmed the news saying Dabwan was at the crusade when the gunmen arrived the scene.

The police is yet to release a statement on the matter.
