Earlier in the week, President Goodluck Jonathan assured Nigerians that the town of Gwoza in Borno state, would be liberated from Boko Haram before or on Friday, March 27.
And on Friday, the Defence Headquarters announced via its Twitter page and official website that the town had indeed been recaptured from the insurgents.
However, there were doubts from many quarters as there was no overwhelming proof that Gwoza was truly liberated.
Several people swung into investigation-mode to unravel the true state of things.
One of such persons is journalist, Ahmed Salkida, who via a series of tweets expressed doubts over the position of the military.
He would also put out a picture of the signboard of mobile police school which was hanging inside a gutter and being supported from behind by a soldier.
So far, everything about the military’s announcement smells fishy and the jury is still out on whether Gwoza has been indeed liberated, or if this is just another political stunt by the PDP-led federal government.
Why is the signboard of MOPOL Schl hanging inside a gutter and a soldier supports it from behind? Something is fishy? pic.twitter.com/26D4HHEIpj

‘This board could have been uprooted, thrown away by BH & soldiers picked it up where it was hurled.’ Dubious stunt? pic.twitter.com/mV8qsk8Lk1

The board was thrown away, it’s even a distance from the school. The schl is a distance from the town? Why lie that they r inside the town?

I won’t be surprise, and will be happy if Gwoza town is retaken tomorrow but surely, it was not reclaimed this morning as the NA declared.

The very foundation of our counterterrorism framework is fraudulent that is why independent voices are gagged and abused into silence.
