He gets the boot: Samson Siasia has been sacked!

by Ifreke Inyang

Samson Siasia has been relieved of his job as the Head Coach of the Super Eagles. The decision was finally taken today after much deliberations between the members of the Executive Committee of the Nigeria Football Federation. The meeting which was held in Abuja recommended that Samson Siasia be fired.

After the NFF Exco Meeting went on recess to allow Muslim members partake in the Jumat prayers, they adopted the Technical Committee’s report that Siasia failed to meet terms of his contract and the penalty clause should be respected. The penalty clause reportedly said that the NFF is at liberty to terminate his contract should he fail to meet his target, which was to qualify for the next African Cup of Nations that will be co-hosted by Gabon and Equatorial Guinea.

Although the house was hotly split down the middle as to whether they should retain Siasia or not, the majority eventually voted for his removal. His replacement was also discussed at the meeting and that is likely to be pushed to the Technical Committee. This will be concluded next week when the Exco and the Technical Committee meet.

Samson Siasia was appointed as coach to the National team last year November. He had a mandate to take the team to the 2012 Nations Cup but didn’t achieve that after the team played out a 2-2 home draw with Guinea in their last qualifying game.
