“He just turned round and opened fire” – Policeman shoots two fellow officers, and then is killed

by Isi Esene

Men of the Adamawa State special anti-robbery patrol, Operation Tsaro, today shot dead a policeman who apparently went berserk and shot two fellow police officers.

The officer, who is with the Michika divisional headquarters of the Adamawa State Police Command, was said to have signed for a rifle for duty around 7am this morning and, in a surprising move, turned around to shoot two of his colleagues who are now receiving treatment in an unnamed hospital.

The shooter, Abba Gana, was reported to have resisted arrest and was shot dead by men of the anti-robbery squad.

Muhammed Ibrahim, spokesman of the police command, confirmed the incident. He gave the ranks of the injured policemen as an inspector and a corporal.

While speaking to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Ibrahim said, “It was an unfortunate incident. This morning, one of our policemen who signed for a rifle for duty, turned around and opened fire on his colleagues who are now receiving treatment in the hospital.”

A similar incident happened a few months ago when a policeman at the Police Divisional Headquarters in Gombi LGA of the state also shot three of his colleagues dead before committing suicide.
