After news broke that Senator Gyang Datong (Plateau North, PDP) had died while attending a funeral in his state, the family has sought to clarify the exact nature of the death.

He died while visiting the mass burial site of 22 residents of Kakuruk Village in Barikin Ladi Local Government Area of the state who were killed by suspected Fulani herdsmen over the weekend.

It was gathered by Daily Times that while the lawmakers were at the funeral, unknown gunmen attacked the crowd. Eyewitness accounts state that both men were felled by the bullets.

However, Ruwang Dantong, the brother of the deceased, told the News Agency of Nigeria that the senator collapsed and died of a heart attack after seeing the dead bodies of his murdered kinsmen.

The state’s police spokesperson, Emmanuel Abu, said he heard of the incident but was yet to get the full details.

  1. The younger brother should lie to himself not to Nigerians…because we have heard the true from the governor spokeperson that the senator and the honourable and others were killed by fulani guys…
