It’s being reported that former President Olusegun Obasanjo has rejected entreaties from the Peoples Democratic Party to do a Lazarus for the party after its calamitous outing at the recently concluded general elections.

At the presidential level, President Goodluck Jonathan was defeated by the Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress.

Also, in the National Assembly elections, the PDP lost its majority status as well as losing ground in the state level to the APC.

With the inevitable role of opposition looming for the PDP, Premium Times reports that Obasanjo is being tenaciously wooed to return to the party and help with its revival.

Ever since, the prominent party members and governors have been at loggerheads with the National Working Committee of the party as well as the National Chairman, Adamu Mu’azu and other officers.

According to the report, Obasanjo is being persuaded to make a comeback to the party are serving governors and federal lawmakers who believe the party should play viable opposition in the next dispensation.

Some of his close allies are also said to be part of those piling pressure on him to come back to lead the party.

However, Obasanjo is said to have repeatedly rejected the pleas and requests for him to return, saying that he was done with party politics.

The report also stated that Obasanjo was overheard telling a PDP chieftain on telephone that: “I’m done with party politics here on earth and in heaven. Period.”

The former President was also reported to have informed some of those pleading with him to return, that he may have considered their demand if he had not shredded his membership card in public, before the general elections.
