Heartless: Woman kills younger husband by crashing her car with him on the hood

A woman has allegedly killed her much younger husband after driving with him on the hood of her car for 11 blocks and crashing after they rowed about money.

Maria Espinosa, 51, has been arrested after Matthew Soria, 34, died when her SUV smashed into another car in Brooklyn, New York on Sunday.

Horrified witnesses said she topped 80 mph as her husband yelled: ‘Stop the car!’

Authorities told the New York Post that Soria had cycled to Espinosa as she got into her Ford Explorer at 8am on Sunday.

‘There was a dispute over money. The male wanted keys to the car and money,’ said New York Police Commissioner Ray Kelly, who said there were ‘past domestic-violence incidents between them’.

When Soria tried to stop his wife from getting inside the car, she pushed him away and refused to give him the keys – and he jumped on the hood of the vehicle, police said.

After he refused to get off the car, Espinosa reversed and hit a parked car so that Soria would fall off – but when he didn’t, she allegedly accelerated with her husband still clinging on.

One witness told the Post that she heard him screaming for help: ‘I could see desperation on the man’s face,’ she said.

She drove nine blocks – including driving through a red light – before turning around and smashing into another vehicle two blocks later, before coming to a stop against another car, sources said.

Soria was pinned between the vehicles in the crash, the New York Daily News reported.

After the crash, witnesses said they saw Espinosa crying and looking confused.

Her husband, whom she had been in a relationship with for 11 years, was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead. Two people in the other car were treated for minor injuries.

‘I am relief knowing that we are alive still,’ one of the passengers, identified only as Ramlal, told News 12 Brooklyn. ‘Looking at where we went, it could’ve been much worse.’

Espinosa has been charged with murder, manslaughter and assault.

‘They had a really messed-up relationship,’ a neighbor told the Daily News. ‘She was always angry.’

Espinosa had filed a domestic-violence complaint against Soria in 2005. He had just finished probation for forcing a 15-year-old to perform a sex act on him in his car in June 2004, the Post reported.
