A 35-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly defiling a 13-year-old boy at Iju area of Ondo State.
The under-age victim, Babatunde Adebayo, was lured by the suspect, Ilesanmi Omojuyigbe, into his room, under the guise of purchasing frozen fish from him.
The unsuspecting teen followed him into his room, and once inside, the suspect held him down and forcefully tore apart his trouser and covered his mouth to stop him from screaming out, while he had sexual intercourse with him.
After having carnal knowledge of Ilesanmi, the suspect pleaded with him not to tell anyone about the incident, promising to buy him anything he desired.
The suspect was eventually arrested by the police after the matter was reported at the station.
While commenting on the case, Police spokesperson, Wole Ogodo, revealed that the suspect, Adebayo lived at 24, College road, Iju, in Akure North local government area of the state.
Ogodo stated that the suspect had confessed to the crime and would soon be charged to court.
It is important not to misinform the public about a news item through the headlines, although a news channel needs traffic it is also good to be balanced in the reportage of events even when the original news from where it was culled might be tainted.
The above news is more of a pedophilia case rather than homosexuality, and such wrong headlines fuels more of violence against same-sex loving persons, as this is also further re-enforcing the wrong perceptions about homosexuality which is not just an alternative life style as many will claim based on ignorance but a sexual orientation like heterosexuality and bisexuality.
Our reportage needs to be balanced and objective so as not to further create a more non inclusive heteronomative society that breeds human rights violations of sexual minorities.
