A middle aged man, Rufus in Ogwashi-Uku community near Asaba, Delta State did the unthinkable on Friday by bathing his 20-year-old nephew, Ebuka Okonkwo with acid.

DSP Celestina Kalu, Police Public Relations Officer in the state, who disclosed this, said that the suspect carried out the act because the victim failed to take sides with a wrong deed.

According to the PPRO, the victim, a student of Comprehensive Secondary School, Ogwashi-Uku, had returned from school and went for a private business and upon his return, met the uncle in a quarrels with neighbours. While the quarrel degenerated, the suspect had wanted him to take sides with him; a situation he (Ebuka) refused leaving the suspect with no option than to pour him acid kept in a container in the house.

The victim, who is now receiving treatment at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH), said “I never suspected my uncle had any bad intention towards me. He bathed me right from the left side of my face to the other parts of my body,” he said.

DSP Kalu added that the suspect would be charged to court upon completion of investigation.
