An 18-year-old man from the Ivory Coast caused an emergency evacuation at the Fuimicino Airport in Rome after he set himself on fire in a police customs office.
He was taken to hospital in a serious condition even a policeman trying to help him was burned on his arm.
According to reports, while in the customs police office, the man showed officials a deportation order then doused himself with fuel and set fire to himself with a lighter.
Today at around 10.40am all passengers in terminal three at the airport, to the west of the Italian capital, were evacuated.
A new reporter at the airport, said: “There was a flash of orange light and we could hear a person wailing.
“There was a lot of billowing smoke coming out of the airport and we were evacuated outside.”
