How to spell love: Man in jail after standing surety for wife

by Isi Esene

Police in Lagos have arrested Benneth Nnine and arraigned him before an Apapa Magistrate’s Court for allegedly aiding a suspect to escape – the suspect in this case being his wife, Betty.

He had stood surety for his wife who was arrested on allegations of assault by the police at Layeni division. Her husband stood surety for her with a promise to produce her at the police station any time she was needed.

Sensing that she might be charged to court, Betty reportedly took her belongings without informing her husband and disappeared.

The police prosecutor said the offense is contrary to Section 132 and 136 of the Criminal Justice Administration, Laws of Lagos State.

Benneth however pleaded not guilty when the charge was read to him.

The presiding Magistrate, H. O. A. Amos, after admitting him to bail in the sum of N20, 000, ordered him to remanded in prison custody at Kirikiri, Apapa until he can fulfill his bail condition.

Love conquers all things.
