‘How human traffickers use donkeys, motorcycles to transport victims’

The Comptroller of the Nigeria Immigration Service, Kaduna State Command, Mohammed Yaro on Monday said human traffickers have devised a new method of transporting their victims to other countries through donkeys and motorcycles.

Yaro said this while parading 11 victims of trafficking who were picked up in various areas of the state.

He said the victims were trying to cross over to Niger republic on their way to Italy when they were caught individually on Saturday.

He said some of them were riding on donkeys or motorcycles in order to evade the security operatives.

He said, “Our investigation revealed that their (victims) mission was to cross border en route Agadez in Niger Republic to Libya and then Italy for employment.

“It was further established that none of them was in possession of any travel documents and they did not have any means of livelihood. It is important to note that the victims were misled by the traffickers whose business is to ferry persons across the border through illegal routes. We are, however, prepared to deal with the syndicate. Today, Katsina State will no longer be used as a transiting route for human trafficking.”

Three of the victims said they regretted their actions but failed to give information on the traffickers.
