‘No apologies’ | One week after, Dokpesi sings another tune (READ)

Raymond Dokpesi, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, infers that the entirety of the Nigerian media industry is filled with liars and every reporter in the business misquoted him, a week ago.

What are the odds…

The Peoples Democratic Party chieftain has denied apologising on behalf of his party for fielding former President Goodluck Jonathan, in the presidential elections.

Here’s what he said a week ago.

“For every and any mistake we have made, I therefore say, we tender our unreserved apologies. The party in 2010 and 2011, made the first round of mistake of not allowing the north to complete its term.

“That was when the party gave a special favour for the then President who came to compete the term of Yar’Adua to be allowed one term to finish.

“The same small leaders of the party came forward in 2015 to state again and refused to return the party to allow the north to field the party’s presidential candidate, they manipulated the party to do the same.”

“Make no mistake, the PDP is aware that there were errors made along the way. We admit that at certain times in our past, mistakes have been made, we did not meet the expectations of Nigerians.

Even though his statement says otherwise, Dokpesi insists that he only apologised to party members over the party’s zoning arrangement which was disregarded in the last general elections

In a statement released on Monday, Dokpesi said that he was proud of the achievements of Jonathan, case in point, his reforms across the sectors of the economy.

“My attention has been drawn to claims in the media that I had apologised to the nation on behalf of the PDP over the fielding of former President Goodluck Jonathan in the last general elections.

Such other media comments and reports actually went further to say that I had apologised for the misdeeds and wrongs done to the nation by the PDP in its 16 years in the saddle since the return of democratic governance in 1999.

“These reports were clearly deliberate and mischievous misrepresentations of what I said at the press briefing.”

“I call on all PDP members nationwide to discountenance the misleading reports as the party has no apologies to offer anyone for its years of rule at the centre and the majority of the states.”
