A doctor living in Rivers has taken the state police command to court over allegations of torture.

Chinyere Emeka Precious, who resides in Port-Harcourt, the state capital, took legal action after she was allegedly detained  for 10 days on trumped up charges.

Dr. Precious said the police falsely accused her of child trafficking  and proceeded to torture her and forcefully collect N25 million from her.

The Eagle Online reports:

Beside the suit, the police officers of the command who arrested Precious over an alleged offence, are now facing orderly room trial for the brutalization of the woman.

The leader of the raid, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, Livinus Iwu, has been removed as the head of the Anti-kidnapping Unit following petitions by the doctor.

Precious, who is the Medical Director of God’s Gift Clinic/Maternity, located at Elelenwo, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of the state, said the policemen, armed to the teeth, stormed her residence, ransacked it and carted away valuables.

It was after this they arrested all the members of her household, totalling 18 persons, including her one-year-old daughter.

She said she tried to find out what her offence was and was told, to her shock, that she was a baby trafficker and was operating a baby factory.

She said: “As soon as they broke into the house, they went through the rooms and carted away our valuables, including cars and jeweleries.

“They made several trips to my house between 2am and 6am and each time they left, they carried more property belonging to me.

“I asked them whether the property they were carting away was part of the babies I was trafficking. “I also tried to find out who gave them the information but they kept quiet on that. “They later asked me to give them N100 million to let me off the hook.

“I told them that I did not have such amount of money. “In the police cell, they refused to let anybody, including my lawyer, to see me until the lawyer was able to raise N5 million and gave it to them.”

Precious said that in spite of the money the lawyer gave to them, the policemen still forced her to sign a cheque of N9 million at first, and then they came for another N5 million.

She added: But the next day, they took me to the police headquarters where they paraded me with a man and his wife whom they forced to agree that they were my accomplices.

“They also forced my drivers, Mr. Fidelis Nanga and Daniel Etim to accept that they were the men impregnating the girls for me.

“Yet, after collecting the money from me, they still went to my hospital and collected everything there. “But as at the time of this briefing, they had returned most of the property they carted away from my residence.

“Finally, after they finished parading me with the couple, they put me under hand and leg chain. “I was battered and brutalised. “Then after keeping me for 10 days, they charged me to court for child trafficking.

“When I was bailed, I asked them to release my property. “They said they had turned to government property. “They however said they would collect another N25 million from me to return the property.

“Now, because the Zonal Police have stepped in, I decided to go public. “They did not see any baby or pregnant girls in the house. “The policemen told me that they would let me go if I was able to give them N100 million.

“They kept me with handcuffs and leg chains for about 10 days before they charged me to court on August 12, 2013.”

Precious said that while she was in detention, her hands and legs were chained and that she was hung head down from a ceiling. She was forced to sign cheques totalling N15.7 million by the police. All the cheques were cashed from the bank after getting her to confirm the cheque to her accounts officer.
