The Senate President of Nigeria, Olubukola Saraki, has stated that the National Assembly is making moves to ensure that there is transparency in its budgeting.
In recent times, the legislative arm has come under heavy bashing from critics and most notably, ex-president Olusegun Obasanjo for the unusual nature of the budgeting of the National Assembly.
The critics have condemned the lack of transparency and financial sensitivity of the legislators after earmarking over N115 billion for 2016 without breakdown or details given.
Reacting to the dress-down, Saraki tweeted:
Yesterday, I restated my commitment and that of my colleagues at @ngrsenate that Nass Budget will no longer be a one line item.

President Obasanjo as an elder statesman raised legitimate points and as a father in our nation, I will reply him using the right platform

I urge our friends in the media to refrain from sensationalism which leads to twisting of stories and therefore creates unnecessary tension

The urge for Internet clicks of stories should not override ethical standard of accuracy in presentation of news
