Former Delta State Governor, James Ibori still remains convicted of money laundering even as it has been established that a British police officer took bribes during the investigation of his case, Reuters reports on Thursday.
One of Ibori’s associates, Bhadresh Gohil had alleged that prosecutors had covered up evidence after taking bribe.
In May, the Crown Prosecution Service said it had found “material to support the assertion that a police officer received payment in return for information.”
However, the CPS on Thursday said the evidence concealed did not question the validity of Ibori’s conviction.
Ibori had pleaded guilty to fraud and money laundering in 2012, earning him a 13-year sentence in a British prison.
