Former EFCC boss, Ibrahim Lamorde ‘may’ be arrested this week [DETAILS]

The Nigerian Senate is set to issue an arrest warrant for former Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Lamorde, for failing to appear before the senate despite several invitations.

According to Punch Newspapers, the Senate may direct the Inspector-General of Police, Solomon Arase, to arrest Lamorde within the week.

Lamorde, who is currently undergoing an educational training at the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies, Kuru, Jos, had incurred the wrath of the upper legislative chamber when he failed to appear before the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions to answer allegations of corruption.

The former EFCC boss is accused of misappropriating more than N1 trillion the EFCC, under him, had recovered from looters. The petition was filled against Lamorde by George Uboh the Chief Executive Officer of Panic Alert Security Systems.

Uboh alleged that Lamorde, with the support of other EFCC officials, had opened an account wherein the misappropriated funds was stashed and that bank accounts of the anti-graft agency was manipulated to hid the fraud.

Sources cited from the office of the senate President, were said to have disclosed that the IGP may receive the warrant for Lamorde’s arrest this week following the forwarding and receipt of a request by the committee on ethics.

“I am not sure there will be any delay. The arrest warrant will be sent to the appropriate quarters anytime this week,” the source said.
