Two officials of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) were yesterday spirited away by officials of the Independent Corrupt Practices & Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) after a visit to the FAAN headquarters.

The men of the ICPC  allegedly arrested the FAAN Director of Administration, Ikechi Uko, and  also the Director of Finance and Accounts, Austin Tadafera. Officials of the anti-graft body reportedly arrived the premises at about 3.pm in three cars, accompanied by policemen.

At the main entrance of FAAN headquarters, staff of the agency watched two of the senior staff of the agency that were arrested.

The anti-graft officials were said to have shut the main entrance to the agency and positioned themselves at strategic places within the complex to forestall the disappearance of the targeted officers.

It was  gathered that the ICPC officials had targeted the Managing Director, George Uriesi, but was not available when the officials came.

Though the reason for the arrest was not known, a reliable source told Daily Independent that arrest of the two officials might be as a result of a petition written against the agency by a major union in the industry, alleging corrupt practices within the agency.

It was also gathered that the anti-corruption agency had invited the management of the agency for questioning few months back on the issue, but the management allegedly refused to honour the invitation.

The General Manager, Corporate Communications, Yakubu Dati, could not be reached for comment, as he did not reply the message sent to him by Daily Independent on the issue.

As at press time it was not clear where those arrested were taken by the ICPC.
