Brown Ideye takes responsibility for Irvine’s sacking

by Mark Bassey

Super Eagles striker Brown Ideye, has taken the blame for Alan Irvine getting the boot at West Brom.

Irvine was sacked just after Christmas last year, as the Baggies continued to struggle. Ideye, who was brought in for a club-record £10million, was also struggling to score goals.

“I felt bad about it. If I had adapted quickly to this league I guess he wouldn’t have been sacked,” Ideye admitted.

The Nigerian was almost shipped off to Qatari side Al Gharafa in the January window, but he eventually stayed at the Hawthorns and is beginning to find his feet.

Ideye has scored four goals in his last three games and lifted West Brom four points above the relegation zone.

“If I was doing then what I am doing now the whole thing would have been different,” the 26-year-old added.

“Unfortunately I can’t turn back the hands of time. Alan really did encourage me, but I didn’t pick it up fast enough. I’m sorry.”
