Ife Adebayo: Squandered 13 years of the PDP, Nigerians want a change now! (Y! Politico)

by Ife Adebayo

As we approach 2015, I encourage all Nigerians young and old, big and small to come and work with the Action Congress of Nigeria towards creating the opposition of the future…

As we all know, the path we trod to get to where we are today was a rough path. After years of military rule we finally found our way back on the path that all Nigerians thought will lead to progress and national development. It’s been 13 years with the People’s Democratic Party and what do we have to show for it? The hopes of Nigerians have been dashed after each election.

Like I stated in my last Y! Politico article titled “Opposition Politics is Nigeria’s Only Hope”, 2015 is already upon us, we cannot wait any longer, the time to move forward is now, the time to decide the only way is forward, forward with a party with the right ideologies, a party with a track record of good governance in all the states where it is in power, a party that has proved and continues to prove that the welfare of the masses comes first. And the bulk of the responsibility rests on the shoulders of the youth.

We have all read some Y! Politico articles asking us all to join the PDP and claiming we are all PDP, we have also been told that the opposition is only after power-grabbing, we have heard all these before, the voices of a scared party, a party that knows with the right opposition having a national presence they stand no chance winning an election in Nigeria, a party that has built most of its successes on fraud and electoral malpractices. A party that shivers when it hears of merger talks between opposition parties, a party with nothing to offer.

The Action Congress of Nigeria is the strongest opposition party in Nigeria today, and we can boldly and proudly say we are the party with a track record of good governance, not just by words, but by action, the records speak for itself, the recreation of Lagos as the commercial headquarters of West Africa by the ACN led government of Gov. Babatunde Fashola building on the foundation laid by his predecessor Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, new roads, motorists obeying traffic rules, businesses thriving in a re-invigorated business environment, employment on the rise, more investments, an example being the Lagos Deep Offshore Logistics (LADOL) entering into partnership with Samsung Heavy Industries Company Limited to build a ship yard in Lagos, investing billions of naira, the Eko Atlantic Project, the Lagos Rail Mass Transit Project, just to mention a few of the many projects that are changing the face of Lagos and most importantly creating jobs, the immense accomplishments in Edo State by Gov. Oshiomole, Gov. Fayemi in Ekiti State, Gov. Rauf Aregbesola of Osun State and all ACN governed states. It is clear, the ACN is the party of the masses, the party with an agenda for the people, why then should you be anywhere else?

As the saying goes that the youth of today are the leaders of tomorrow, any nation that does not invest in its youths will regret in the future, any nation that does not encourage the youths to be politically aware will breed a generation without ideas of what they should be getting from their government, this is why today Nigerian youths don’t seem to realise they have a right to good, quality and affordable education, they have a right to good healthcare, they have a right to question and demand answers from their leaders on national issues, they have right to security, they have a right to walk around Borno State and not be afraid of bomb blasts, they have a right to go for NYSC and serve their nation in Bauchi and not be butchered. We need to increase the awareness of our youth, we cannot ignore this responsibility.

As we approach 2015, I encourage all Nigerians young and old, big and small to come and work with the Action Congress of Nigeria towards creating the opposition of the future, we have to bring in all Nigerians to join this great party and be a part of our story, Nigerians from every corner, Igbo, Hausa, Yoruba, Birom, Nupe, Ebira, every Nigerian, coming together as one, to work together to make our nation greater. The time to act is NOW, and we need to encourage everybody to get on this train with us, whether you are from the north, south, east or west, we need to get up on our feet now and start moving to take Nigeria to greater heights. As a nation, we are faced with high poverty level, poor educational institutions, dilapidated infrastructure, epileptic power supply, unemployment, insecurity, bomb blasts left, right and centre, we the youth cannot sit and fold our arms, we have to stand up now and be the change we want to see, what other way can be best to do that than to join the party with the proven capability. As we brace up for another 2.5 years of a PDP led government, we have to keep demanding for our rights, demanding for good governance, and we have to start working to put ourselves on a good footing to vote in a government with the ability to lead come 2015.

  1. We have a right to ride our Okadas too, even if we break our necks while doing it. It's still our right.

  2. Tell them!!!! Nigerians say a resounding 'NO' to the Jagabandits!

  3. Mr ACN Youth Leader (UK former), Nigerians do not want a party where they can not vote during primary elections, and choose. Everybody knows that Bola Tinubu SELECTS whoever he wants in ACN. We, the enlightened Nigerian Youths will NOT and will NEVER support Godfatherism. Lagos is the richest state in Nigeria and Fashola is not doing as much as he should be doing. WE know Lagos and Tinubu controls many media houses in Nigeria, but ACN will never smell ASO ROCK. CPC is even better, even with their FUNDAMENTALIST APPROACH. Goodluck Jonathan has increased power supply in NIGERIA, has defeated Boko Haram and has conducted credible elections, so forget the past 13 years or whatever! GOODLUCK JONATHAN CAN ONLY BE RATED BY WHAT HE DOES FROM 2010 ONWARDS… WATCH AND SEE
