In a bid to put a halt to the rising threat of insurgency in Nigeria, leading Yoruba and Igbo youth organisations decided to form an alliance towards combating Boko Haram.
The groups, Yoruba Youth Council Worldwide (YYCW), and Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Wing (ONYW), who met in Enugu on Wednesday night addressed a joint press conference after the five-hour meeting, stating that it was high time for Nigerians to stand up against insecurity, especially in the North East region.
Leader of the YYCW, Eric Oluwole, explained that they formed an alliance to decide how they could move this country forward, stressing that they can no longer fold their hands and allow this country to be destroyed by evil under the guise of Boko Haram.
“Part of what we discussed today is security. Even today, we heard that happened in Kano College, where the College was destroyed by Boko Haram and many students killed. This is a threat to Nigeria. This is a threat to the President.
“It looks as if they don’t want him to be the leader of this country. We, the youth, believe in his transformation agenda. The main point of our meeting today is to come together and think of how we can deliver this country from every evil because the power of this country lies on us as youth who are the leaders of tomorrow,” Oluwole stated.
Also speaking after the meeting, the ONYW National President, Okechukwu Isiguzoro, called out to youths of other ethnic nationalities to join them in the alliance to rescue Nigeria from the spate of insurgency.
