“I’m deeply saddened” – Bukola Saraki offers condolences to victims of Sallah stampede (READ)

News was received today of a stampede in Kwara State which led to the deaths of some people and caused varying degrees of injury to others during the Sallah festivities.

The incident occurred during a yearly Peoples Democratic Party charity event which was organized for the purpose of giving out gifts for the Sallah celebrations.

The event had Senator Bukola Saraki, a former governor of the state, in attendance and reportedly took place near the former governor’s residence. This is why the sad development has struck a personal chord for the senator and as such he has released an official statement to convey his sadness and sympathy.

Full statement below:

I’m deeply saddened to receive the news about the loss of some of our party members who were stampeded after the Sallah festivities at the charity house.

Our party’s strength resides solely in the support from party faithful which gives us huge confidence always- it’s very painful to have lost these party faithful.I commiserate with the families of the deceased and pray that Allah grant us the strength to bear the loss and for those responding to treatment, I wish them speedy recovery. 

All other activities scheduled at the charity house have been suspended as a mark of respect to the departed.We appreciate the prayers, support and condolences.
