Imo state to commence payment of pension on Monday

The Imo State government says it would commence payment of pension on Monday, September 19, Channels Television reports.

The Commissioner for Internally Generated Revenue and Pensions Matters, Ifeanyi Ararume, who disclosed this in Owerri the Imo State capital said the government has approved the sum of N1.2 billion for immediate payment of pensions for the month of August 2016.

In the same vein the state Governor, Rochas Okorocha, has set up a committee to meet with the Labour Unions on how to offset pension arrears in the state.

The non-payment of pension and the arrears to civil servants has been a major issue in the state between the government and Labour Unions especially the Nigerian Union of Pensioners (NUP).

According to the commissioner the payment is at all levels from retired civil servants, public servants, retired school teachers and permanent secretaries.
